How useful storage space is! It not only allows you to declutter your apartment or house of seasonal or useless objects, but also to keep objects that are dear to us or that are likely to be useful to us later. However, this is not a reason to abandon your storage space (which far too many people are in the habit of doing).

Indeed, it is sometimes better to visit its storage space so as not to have any unpleasant surprises. In order to avoid some of these unpleasant surprises such as dust, termites or rodents, we advise you to keep your storage space clean. Be careful, dust is not an element to be neglected, it can be very harmful to health by containing lead or even chemical allergens.

Keeping your storage space clean will allow you to keep your stored items in good condition. Costockage gives you some tips to keep your storage space clean.

USE PLASTIC BOXES TO KEEP YOUR SPACE CLEAN
As we have already told you in our articles “how to store well”. These boxes are very practical because they are airtight. They are not sensitive to temperature or ambient air like cardboard. They are not likely to tear if you store too many objects inside. They are less prone to mold and termites.

Before placing objects in them, clean them and then dry them. Leave no trace of moisture. Store your objects in the boxes according to their weight. You can wrap your items in sheets to further protect them from dust. To facilitate air circulation in the storage space, place your boxes on pallets or shelves. Placing them high can also make it easier to clean your storage space.

DO NOT STORE FOOD
It seems obvious but it is perhaps necessary to recall it. You may have made a mistake packing your kitchen things in a hurry. This is a mistake to absolutely avoid: food attracts rodents and other pests. Be sure to double check items before placing them in your storage.

CLEAN UP THE OBJECTS YOU STORE IN ADVANCE
Before placing your items in your storage space, clean them. This will prevent dust from forming on your items while they are in storage. You can clean your boxes with baby wipes, or a vacuum cleaner to remove crumbs.

For items that cannot fit in plastic boxes, you will also need to protect them. Start by cleaning them using grandmother’s recipes like vinegar compositions. Vinegar is a good way to clean all kinds of products, it is a versatile product and therefore a good investment. Lay tarps over these items so that you only have the tarp to clean after getting your things back. Reuse your old sheets by turning them into tarps.

RETURN AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR TO YOUR STORAGE SPACE.
If you have placed them in storage, it is to find your objects in good condition later. Try not to forget them. Be sure to go back there at least once a year to check the condition of your items, and re-clean them just in case. This will be an opportunity for you to review what you have stored and therefore to take a step back from these objects. Maybe you will realize that you will not need it anymore or maybe you will want to recover one of your objects which will probably be useful to you.
